‘With mobiles, why steal a payphone?’

0565262.jpgVALE junior constable Margaret Cleal is perplexed by a burglary at the douzaine room.

The payphone was ripped from the wall in the lobby, but nothing else was taken. ‘Nobody uses it much these days because everyone has mobile phones,’ she said.

The break-in occurred between 5.15pm on Sunday and 6.30am yesterday. Initially, the burglars tried to gain access via the front door, bending the lock, but it appears that they were able to do so only through a side door.

‘I can’t understand why anyone would try and force their way in through the front door. It would have been lit up like a Christmas tree,’ said Miss Cleal.

Only last week she ensured all sensor lights around the front of the building were working.

One of the two glass double doors at the front was shattered as was a side door. There was damage to another side door.

‘When the police asked me to check inside, I noticed that the payphone was missing,’ she said.

It is not visible from outside.

A shopping trolley was left at the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

You don’t need to be a genious to work out the reason for stealing the phone. The conents would be the attraction.

As for the culprits. I would suggest that they were young clueless junkies. I have no doubts that they were buzzing on gear at the time of the burglary.

Message to margaret Cleal. It may be worth looking into Smart Water technology to protect anything of value. It can also protect all entry and exit points and once activated will almost certainly guarantee convictions of those responsible!

    Margaret.
    It is called money.
And money pays for drugs, taxi’s or other things.
    That’s why they stole it.
Get the police to cross check recently released prison attendees and see which of them likes heroin or cocaine, or liaise with the taxi firms to see if anyone paid £25 in 5 pences to get home.
No charge for the free advice Margaret.
I would suggest you ask someone in the Home Department before you go making such a dumb public comment in future.
You will be joining Bernard next in the silly corner.

Darren, I suggest you re-read the article - Ms Cleal’s comment was not dumb as you suggest. Her observation was that since the payphone was hardly used due to the fact that most people now have mobiles, there wouldn’t have been a large amount of money in the thing! I assume the essence of what she was saying was that it was rather a lot of effort for what would undoubtedly have been a very small reward.

It would appear that our very own junky scum seem to spend little time if any behind bars. They are crafty and shifty to the point that we are clueless. If any of them spread their cancer to any of my children then it would be me behind bars for murder. How fair is this then?

We all need to do our bit to rid these scumbags out once and for all. If you feel that junkies would waste good money on a taxi then you are out of touch and need to get an understanding of who they really are. They would rather thieve someone elses car and take any contents of value once they have reached their dealers abode.

We all have a part to play in stamping out these zombies hell bent on taxing us to feed their scabby habits.

Help them but also test them on a regular basis. If tests come back positive then lock them up so they can’t infect our vulnerable people with their sick crap.

I’m sick of them expecting sympathy whilst at the same time spreading their crap at the expense of others!

What are the figures for our registered junky scumbags at the moment then? A lot more than last year and the year before. And the year before that and the story keeps going on.

We all need to take a different and radical approach here! They may still be able to shoot up behind bars but they can’t sread their habit from this place!
