LIZ DEWE has won yet another competition in the Sark AC and has increased her lead at the top of the championship table.
In spite of the appalling weather, seven members turned out for the seven-hour roving shore event and five managed to find fish to bring to the weigh-in.
Dewe’s winning catch was one pollack, seven black bream and one ballan wrasse for 10-2-0 and 53.5 points.
Second was Glyn Williams with three black bream and one ballan wrasse for 5-13-0 and 33.25. Henry Curry was third with a black bream and a ballan wrasse, for 2-12-0 and 21, while Darren Dewe grabbed fourth spot with a 0-12-0 black bream worth 11 points.
Junior angler Jason Brehaut completed the catches with a 1-9-0 ballan wrasse to score 8.25 points.
Although the Sark AC’s year does not end until March and four competitions remain to be fished, Dewe is steadily increasing her lead over second-placed Williams and has now got a 73.75 point gap.
If Dewe is successful in winning the title, it will mean a female angler will have won the club championship four times in the club’s six-year history.
IT IS catch your Christmas dinner weekend.
The Northern Trust Fur and Feather competition, organised by the Guernsey Sea Anglers Club, takes place on Sunday.
It will start at the St Peter Port Services warehouse, Bulwer Avenue, at 9am, with the weigh-in and presentation of prizes at the same venue at 4pm.
It is an open event for both seniors and juniors, although the club recommend that young anglers be accompanied by a responsible adult.
There are equal prizes for both the heaviest bags of the day and also the best specimen fish, allowing the angler to choose which type of fishing he or she prefers.
There is even a prize for the best fish of each species.
All the awards are items of Christmas fare, from turkeys to crackers and meat joints to wine.
Entry fees are modest: £5 for seniors, not the £3 previously advised, £3 for juniors and £1 per team member, teams to consist of three anglers.
ENTRIES are now welcome for the December Fish of the Month competitions.
Prizes at stake are the Shakespeare Monthly Angling Award for the top overall fish, the J. Meerveld and Sons tankard for the best shore-caught specimen and the Alderney Angling and Sports tankard for the best boat-caught fish.
There are the two runner-up prizes of Bucktrout’s Bass Beers, the Aval du Creux Hotel prize for juniors and the Tackle Direct spot prize.
Anglers are also reminded that this is the last month in the Phoenix Fish Bass competition.
