ROOS’ shooting combination of Kiara De Carteret and Jenny Craze fired their team to a 36-30 win over Panthers in the Condor Super League, but it was not without a scare.
Both shooters enjoyed a great game, splitting the Panthers defence with fine drives through the middle of the circle and converting their shots.
By three-quarter-time, Roos led by 11. But, with Claire Queripel in full flight, Panthers pulled off some good interceptions as Roos started to find life difficult and it was the dogged determination of GK Zola Bourgaize that kept them ahead until the final whistle.
Experience’s desired to avoid successive defeats saw them win the second game of the night against Zebras.
In another good encounter, the Vets punished any missed shot from their opponents by sending the ball down court to score themselves.
They held a 30-22 lead at half-time before drawing the third quarter and edging the fourth by two for an important win.
WILDCATS and Nemos produced an absolute thriller in the latest round of the Condor Junior Super League.
Jo Pugh proved to be the heroine for Nemos as she calmly converted a goal opportunity in the dying seconds to secure a 24-23 victory, but the coaches were full of praise for both sides afterwards.
‘The girls did fantastically well and it was lovely to see such a top-level junior game,’ they said.
‘It was particularly pleasing to see some of the older girls support the younger players and give them confidence and belief.
‘This game demonstrated what the league is all about.’
For the majority of the first quarter it was Wildcats who had taken the initiative, with the strength and height of Charlotte Hill and Claire Henry in defence keeping Nemos at bay while Charlotte Duffy dominated centre court and fed Laura-Jane Boyd in the circle to help establish an 8-2 lead.
However, Nemos fought their way back, with Pugh and Jess Burgess impressing and Amy Woodhart settling into a new position at goalkeeper.
They went into the second quarter trailing by only one and the rest of the game was goal-for-goal action.
Heading into the last minute, Wildcats held a two-goal advantage before a quick conversion on centre pass followed by a turnover and conversion set up Nemos for Pugh’s last-ditch heroics.
However, Joeys were able to edge out Nemos 26-23 in another excellent game as Ashleigh Page shone for the victors.
The league’s other game saw Cubs come out at express pace against Stripes to rock their opponents and open a lead they did not relinquish in a 23-15 victory.Condor Super League: Senior and junior round-up
