JAMES BRIGGS (pictured) ended up 13th in the 2009 Formula Windsurfing Oceanics and Australian Championships.
Taking place at Ramsgate Beach, Sydney, the 33-year-old was the sole British sailor in the event.
And the multiple Island Games gold medallist, who competed at last year’s Formula Windsurfing World Championships in Portugal, put in a performance of which he can be proud in a field of 23 sailors.
‘I was pleased to have been able to achieve 13th place overall in what is off-season in the northern hemisphere for formula windsurfing, and so kick-starting the 2009 season off earlier than anticipated,’ he said.
‘In addition, it gave me the opportunity not only to race against another group of experienced competitors, but also experiment with different equipment and develop my ability to tune-up equipment in preparation for racing.
‘Not only has the weather proved fantastic, so was the hospitality in providing a truly superb introduction to formula windsurfing for me in the southern hemisphere.’
