JASON HOOPER was given a fitting send-off from the Guernsey under-21s as they crushed Jersey by 54 points on Saturday.

It was the last year in the age group for the side’s star captain and he was inspirational as the Sarnians turned in a team performance at a lively Beau Sejour.

‘They played for each other and that was the heartening thing,’ said under-21s coach Adam Farish.

‘No one went out there for themselves, not even Jason in his last game. I can’t wait to see what they are like without Jason, at the same time he’s moving on and I think he’s ready to make that step.’

Hooper ended up with 18 points, including four three-pointers in the rout.

Big man Dan Marriott top scored for the Greens with 26 points closely, followed by Max Hamon with 25.

But it was really a team effort for the proud Farish.

‘I can’t speak highly enough of them,’ he said. ‘It is a reflection of how hard these kids have been working together.’

While the under-21s ran the show for the entire course of their match, the under-17s turned up only in the final quarter as they lost by three points.

The visitors had been up by more than 17 points at one point before the Sarnians fought back.

Chris Radimski led the way for Jersey with 26 points.

‘If we had played the whole game like we did in the last 10 minutes, it would have been like the under-21s,’ said Farish, who also coaches the under-17s.

‘Jersey started the better and we never recovered from it. They always seemed more composed.

‘I’m really disappointed but we’re only losing a couple for next year.’What a weekend: Action from all the big matches played in Guernsey over a hectic two days
