Matt blasts board

0134001MATT LE TISSIER will today meet with administrators of stricken Southampton Football Club to see what role he can play to save the south-coast club.

As arguably the greatest player in the Championship club’s proud history, Le Tissier has confirmed he will do as much as he can to keep it alive.

The club’s holding company went into administration on Friday and the debts of £30m. have led to grave concerns whether they will be able to continue beyond the season.

Speaking on Gillette Soccer Saturday, the weekly Sky football programme on which he is a regular pundit, the Guernseyman, pictured, said he felt ‘pretty sick to be honest’ and was very critical of the club’s board.

Asked who was to blame for the perilous position Saints find themselves in, he said: ‘You have got to look at the board over the last five or six years. They’ve all got to take responsibility. It’s been serious mis-management.’

Media reports on Saturday suggested that the club has just 28 days to save itself.

‘It’s such a sad situation that they find themselves in,’ said the man who was revered by fans during his 16-year career at The Dell and then at the new ground at St Mary’s.

‘It beggars belief really that the club have allowed themselves to be put in it.

‘It’s very, very disappointing and there are some people at the top end who shouldn’t be sleeping well at night.

‘I’ll sit down with the administrators on Monday and see if there’s any way I can help.
