Last weekend members of the Guernsey Darts Association came over to take on the Herm residents for a charity match at the Mermaid.

The Guernsey team were Pete, Vino, Shaun, Danny, Syd, Scott, Claire, Mark, Leeroy, Steve, Lenny and Wayne.

The Herm team consisted of Mike Rowe, Jonathan Watson, Brett Moore, James Cordingly, Willy Janse van Vuuren, Tom Jones and Chris Pimblett, with guest players Yvonne, Paul and Steve of the Guernsey team.

After a hopeful start for the Herm boys, they eventually lost 7-3 to the visitors.

Either way, the sun was shining, spirits were high, and everyone had a great night.

The charities played for were the You Can Do It Foundation, the Neo-Natal Unit and the Sarah Matheson Trust.

The teams are hoping to make this a regular thing with probable future charities to include the Macmillan Trust and the Flying Christine.

Sunday will see the Mermaid’s second annual Family Fun Day. The event will take place between 11am and 4pm in Fisherman’s Field, and all proceeds go to Help A Guernsey Child. Last year the weather was a bit of a letdown but despite that over £2,000 was raised. The pub hopes to exceed that amount this year with nicer weather on the cards.

The always-entertaining Island FM DJ Richard Harding will be over for the day and will possibly once more run the live auction, which last year was a big success.

Entry will cost £5 per family of two adults and two children, or £1.50 each. This includes free bouncy castle and play zone and free children’s entertainer.

One child per adult will also travel free on the Trident, with the kind permission of Peter Wilcox.
