A LOVE match is the big fixture tomorrow at Rangers Football Club.
A couple who met at the St Andrew’s club are tying the knot – and celebrating with a reception on the pitch.
Matt Marquis, 29, got down on one knee, (with the aid of a half-time drinks tray to protect his work clothes from the muddy pitch) and proposed to 22-year-old Kirsty Sylvester in the centre circle in November last year.
She accepted and there was only one place they wanted to hold the party, which will be the first time a wedding reception has been hosted at the club. Ahead of the celebrations the pair, who have an eight-month-old daughter, Niamh, will get married at noon at the Castel Church.
Mr Marquis, who works for the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, has been involved with Rangers since 2000 in a number of roles, including football secretary and women’s coach.
He and Miss Sylvester, who plays as a striker for the women’s football team, also play softball for Rangers.
She joined the club in 2003 but moved to New Zealand with her parents later that year.
They stayed in touch and, when Miss Sylvester returned to Guernsey in November 2007, Mr Marquis popped the question just two weeks later.
‘Talk about playing hard to get,’ he laughed. ‘It doesn’t get much worse than moving to the other side of the world.’
But love clearly went on to win the day.
As Miss Sylvester said: ‘I guess when you just know, you know.’

May I congratulate the happy couple, may I also congratulate Zoe Ash for probably this years worst headline :-)
