This matter is a bit like a punch and judy show.Do you really mean you can park your old car on someones land, create an eyesore and a public danger, and nobody can do anything about it."Rouse up Sirs, give your brains a racking,to find the remedy we're lacking,or sure as Saints,we'll send you packing"
And well done to that young lady for putting the cat amoung the pidgeons!

Ray
Just to clarify your 2:37 posting. If one wished to pop into the Greffe they would need to look up the details of Mrs Holroyd not Mr.

The land changed hands through the fief de Carteret.

If I was Mr Holroyd I would clear all the abandoned cars and start up a wheel clamping business on the land.

After a few hundred cars had to pay £60 each to have the clamps removed I doubt they would be too quick to use the businesses in the surrounding areas again.

After a demonstration like this the surrounding businesses would soon see a huge drop in their takings. They would then be happy to sit down and come to a reasonable conclusion with the land owner.

I have been informed the dispute did not arise purely from a rental point of view. The area needs to be resurfaced and the surrounding businesses did not wish to involve themselves with this cost.

Why should Mr Holroyd for the benefit of mainly the businesses and the general public?

Just because you sold or bought something does not mean you actually had or have the title to that item.
I could buy a car from someone who did not actually own it and get caught out.
Property is no different. You like to think that you had right to title or that you were getting right to title. But it depends on the accurancy of the existing documentation to prove that point.
My understanding is that this has not been proven that it was land owned that could be sold by the person selling it etc. Until proven title is confirmed then I personally do not assume that the land is owned by Thomas Holroyd.

Barr Saunders .. are you suggesting that Mr Holroyd should post a copy of his conveyance on this site to prove his ownership?
A quick visit to the Greffe between 2-4pm weekdays will get you the information you need from the publicly available documents. If he doesn't own it I'm sure this problem would have been cleared up long ago.

donkeys life .. if there is a disc parking sign there it suggests that the States believed they owned the land at some stage. Perhaps THEY sold it to Mr Holroyd's mother ?

I'm with WHB on this one.

If I moved into your house without permission because it was more convenient for work are you all seriously saying you wouldn't have a problem with this??

Yeah... right....

There's no difference here, Mr Holroyd owns the land. You and the shops don't yet you still want to use if for free??!

The obvious solution here is for the shops to pay a fair market rent to Mr Holroyd. So rather than chastising a guy who simply wants to earn a bit of cash for the land he owns, why not direct this considerable ire towards the tight-fisted shopkeepers who have allowed this situation to develop in the first place.

Bonney

Your first post - "If I was the land owner I would do exactly the same & in fairness I think most people would…"

Your second post - "I personally would not go down the route of abandoning cars there due to environmental & safety issues"

Which is it then?

Also - "its not the land owners fault".

Is it proven who actually is the land owner? Surely simple enough for Mr H to provide a copy of his conveyance if he has one.

Fin - if you actually bothered to read my comment, you would see that I said I dont blame him following the surrounding businesses refusal to pay rent.

Of course if I owned the land I would have a meeting with the businesses - just like this guy did - if they refuse to play ball then why should a land owner sit back & watch them make money out of people that park on their land for free?!

I personally would not go down the route of abandoning cars there due to environmental & safety issues - I would however find a way to stop people parking on my land.

I would say that the owners of Checkers, Cobo Village Stores & Cobo Chip Shop have had it very good over the years - its not the land owners fault they have no parking outside them!

Neil - Went to the conclusion first - 66 pages was a bit much to contemplate on a warm day! And so it seems that that particular review body concluded that they'd like to tighten up rules on the release of data. This will give us even less chance of getting something sorted as the police are forced to pull the shutters down even firmer when asked for help (assuming that we slavishly follow the UK here which sadly seems to be the norm). And this all flows out of UK Government cock-ups with regard to inadvertant loss and/or publication of personal data. They mess up; everyone else suffers.

Whatever John Humphreys had in mind in 1948 is getting seriously screwed up now that the lunatics are paid consultants to the folks who haven't a clue what goes on outside the asylum they're supposed to be in charge of.

WHB - staggering admission. You'd have cars abandoned if you owned the land and you reckon most people would? Wouldn't the better way be to speak to the users of your land and agree terms for continued use. Your option wouldn't provide you with much rent.

And I don't think that the local businesses are making money on every car parked there. A number of them appear not to be awaiting the return of their drivers with bags of heavy shopping.

Fair play to him I say...

If you want to lay blame, then have a go at the surrounding businesses... They are refusing to pay rent, yet expect their patrons to be allowed to park on private land for free so they can make money!!

If you owned a field & someone put a supermarket next to it - would you be expected to give up your field so people can park there for free? The supermarket is laughing as they make money on every car parked there - you however get nothing...

If I was the land owner I would do exactly the same & in fairness I think most people would...

So - if you want to lay blame - blame the surrounding businesses or the States...

Why the States? Cos they are useless & ruining the island & they are at fault for most things so 1 more wouldnt hurt!!

Somewhere along the line Human Rights and Data Protection have been conjoined. An example might be, if you can be bothered to read it is, the following PDF

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/jt200708/jtselect/jtrights/72/72.pdf

I’m unsure that the John Humphreys started the drafting of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights had in mind the protection of fly tippers in my garden.

Has anyone noticed the cars and vans parked on the cobbled area at the salarie?.
they have been there for months and never get moved. Most belong to a guy who buys and sells them.(He`s made it into his own little busness)
I know some of the guys from down there have complained many times but nothing is ever done about it and it`s public land.
The authority`s are just not interested.
Surely there must be some law against this?
