Errors end Watson’s Wimbledon hopes

Heather WatsonHEATHER WATSON’S dreams of another Grand Slam final appearance were ended at Wimbledon yesterday.

The British junior number two and Polish partner Magda Linette were beaten in three sets in the second round of the girls’ doubles at the All England Club.

The sixth seeds – who reached the final of the French Open last month – raced into an early lead against Japan’s Miyabi Inoue and Sachie Ishizu. They won the first set in just 20 minutes but then imploded.

Inoue and Ishizu, despite being unseeded, duly took advantage to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

‘It’s very disappointing because we have been playing so well,’ said Watson (pictured).

‘Magda has been suffering with an injury but we were confident we could do well.’

The 17-year-old will look to the four double faults and 27 unforced errors as the cause of the defeat which means there are no British pairings left in any of the junior doubles events.
