Pinnacle might renew Southampton bid

Matt Le TissierA Matt Le Tissier-led consortium that withdrew from the race to buy Southampton FC might be reconsidering its decision – although it is not known if Matt Le Tissier is still involved.

The Pinnacle Group announced its withdrawal on Tuesday after a dispute with the Football League. The consortium was said to be worried that the League might impose further points sanctions on the club that will already start the season on minus 10.

However, it emerged yesterday that the Football League has denied the possibility of further point deductions being imposed and that one of Pinnacle’s financial backers might still be interested.

North London businessman Michael Fialka said: ‘I was very pleased to learn today that the Football League have made it known that, in the event of a takeover, no further sanctions will be issued to Southampton. With that in mind, we were advised by Pinnacle today to reconsider our position and we are now looking into this.’

Le Tissier had been the first to confirm that Pinnacle would not pursue its interest in Southampton and as of yesterday there was no word from the Saints legend or any other member of the group.

Two other groups are currently in negotiations with administrator Mark Fry to buy the club and it is believed that Southampton will be in business for the next weekend at least.
