ROYAL GUERNSEY were the victorious team in the prestigious Colin Sutton Memorial Cup.
The cup was presented by Bunny Roberts on behalf of Sarah Sutton.
Playing against teams from La Moye, Royal Jersey and Les Mielles, Royal Guernsey were impressive winners taking the cup with the three counting scores, from the team of four, all in the 70s – an incredible achievement that has not occurred previously in the history of the cup.
Jan Chamberlain played a superb round carding a gross 77 in which she had 14 pars.
Equalling her score was young junior Aimee Ponte, who was out in 36 with birdies at the first, fourth and ninth.
Ponte was pipped to the individual prize by Chamberlain who carded a 39 on the back nine to Ponte’s 41.
Chamberlain was delighted with her round playing against La Moye’s Jenny Deeley, who went round in 79.
Ponte, playing in the cup for the first time, hugely enjoyed the experience and reduced her handicap again and is now playing off six.
Kay Mapley and Sue Wellfair played very steady rounds with Mapley carding 79 and Wellfair an 81.
Both players played the front nine in 40 and while Mapley came back in 39, Wellfair shot a 41.
The team score of 223 was made up of the best three scores from the team and in any other year Wellfair’s 81 would have been counting, but this was an exceptional performance by all four players to take the cup for the first time since 1991.
La Moye placed second, Royal Jersey third and Les Mielles were fourth.Colin Sutton Memorial Cup: Home quartet all score well to win trophy at L’Ancresse
