Jennings pulls ever away to land title

George JenningsAS EXPECTED George Jennings (pictured) has won the West Coast Sea Angling Club’s summer league.

He swept into a considerable lead when the league started in April and retained that advantage right through the summer.

Not content with that domination he further consolidated his lead in September by landing four more qualifying fish to take his final tally to 19 species for 948.38%. His catches were a 9-3-2 bass, 2-8-4 trigger fish, 1-5-6 garfish and a 1-12-5 Couch’s sea bream.

A total of 14 qualifiers were entered during September, all by the top four in the league.

Rob Jennings, in second spot, had three, a 1-9-2 red gurnard, 1-4-0 garfish and a club record Couch’s sea bream of 3-6-5, to take his score up to 15 species and 669.82%.

Third-placed Mark Addlesee also had three, a club record trigger fish of 3-6-5, a 1-8-5 pout and a 2-8-11 black bream, to finish with 11 species and 554.67%.

Martin Mourant, in fourth spot, completed the catches with four qualifiers to take his total to 11 species for 468.91%. His fish were 1-11-5 trigger fish, 1-7-5 pout, 2-7-10 black bream and a 1-2-8 red gurnard.

It’s not surprising that the Jennings’ family won the pairs competition by a huge margin. They had 1,588.20%, well clear of Addlesee/Mourant’s total of 1,023.58. Third-placed Shane Huxster/Jack Thoume were way back on 382.07.

ANDY BROWN topped the shore-caught catches in the Guernsey Bass Anglers Sportfishing Society in September.

He had four fish weighing 7-12-0, 7-5-0, 6-5-0 and 5-11-0 for a total weight of 27-10.0.

In total, six members entered 12 bass.

The Mick’s Fishing Supplies award for the heaviest went to Walter de la Mare with an 8-8-0 specimen. He also had a 6-14-0 fish. Two members weighed in two, Dan Slimm 7-9-12 and 5-8-0 and Andy Hockey 3-8-0 and 3-4-0.

Single fish catches were Annette Slimm 5-0-12 and Brian Montgomery 4-11-0.

In spite of only weighing in that solitary fish, Montgomery has retained his substantial lead at the top of the shore championship. It now stands at 46-0-12 over second-placed Andrew Wicks.

It was a poor month for Montgomery’s nearest rivals. Wicks, third-placed Dave Saunders and fourth-placed Andy Marquis all had blank months.

Nine fish were entered in the club’s boat championship. Addlesee came out on top with fish of 9-1-0 and 8-8-0, 17-9-0 in total. Other members with two fish were Jean Prout 6-6-0 and 4-9-0 and Paul Clark 5-7-0 and 4-4-0.

The Boatworks+ award for the heaviest of the month went to Carl Foulds for a 9-6-0 fish. Other single catches were Mark P. Fletcher 9-3-0 and Martin Mourant 5-0-0.

The boat championship race is a more closely-fought affair than the shore section.

Clark has retained his top spot with none bass for 59-2-2, 18-6-5 ahead of Mark P. Fletcher in second place.

THE Guernsey Sea Anglers Club’s Olympic Nocturnal Trophy has gone to John Hatton. He came second in the third match of the series but had done more than enough over the first two legs to secure his win.

John Davey was the winner of the all-night match, landing two pout and seven lesser spotted dogfish for 11-4-0 and 93 points.

Five members took part and four found fish. In second place Hatton landed one black bream, seven pout and two lesser spotted dogfish for 7-13-0 and 74.25 points.

Peter Frise was third with three dogfish for 5-2-0 and 58.5 points, while Adie Sarre completed the catches with five pout and two dogfish for 5-8-0 and 49 points to take fourth.

Only six members fished in the competition. Hatton finished on 197.5 points, Mike Weysom was second on 147.25, Davey third on 108.75, Frise fourth on 85.75, Adie Sarre fifth on 49 and Bill Le Billon sixth on 19.
