ELECTRICAL wholesaler Edmundson Electrical is returning to the island after more than 100 years.

The UK chain opened its own Guernsey store at Avalon House, Bulwer Avenue, at the start of last month and currently employs four staff.

The store adds to more than 250 across the country. It also represents a return to the island for Edmundson after a century away.

In August 1898, Edmundson’s Electricity Corporation was granted the concession to build and operate the supply in Guernsey. A power station was opened in 1900 but in 1907, The Guernsey Electric Light and Power Company Ltd acquired the concession from Edmundson’s.

Manager Mike Pearson said it was good to be back.

‘We have a presence from Stornoway in the Western Isles to Jersey and felt the time was right to set up in Guernsey.’

Mr Pearson said there was definitely room for further competition locally in the provision of domestic, commercial and industrial electrical equipment.

He was also on the lookout for another member of staff.

‘I do believe there is scope in the local marketplace for Edmundson Electrical. We are the UK’s largest electrical wholesaler and we offer market-leading brands from stock, some of which are currently not available through other wholesalers in the island.

‘I believe that in time we will offer the best service levels, more access to market leading products, better value for money and a stock profile specific for the island.’
