Primrose offers alternative cures

Primrose MathesonA NEW complementary therapy practice is up and running.

Set up by islander Primrose Matheson, 24, Island Homeopathy offers homeopathic consultations from its base at Les Cotils, but also home visits.

Miss Matheson (pictured), who studied for three years at The Centre for Homeopathic Education in London, the UK’s largest homeopathy college, said she had always had an interest in complementary treatments after having had health problems during her teens.

But it was while studying naturopathy during her first year in London that she was inspired by her lecturer Neil Slade.

He was a successful homeopath in Mayfair and his accounts made Miss Matheson, who is a registered member of the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths, want to know more.

For the past two years she has practised in London, but is now looking forward to working for herself in Guernsey, despite setting up during the downturn.

‘It is daunting but then there are not a lot of jobs available at the moment either, so I would rather be doing something proactive and it’s more rewarding working for yourself than working for other people.

‘I think you learn a lot more because the pressure is on you and you alone.’

Her treatments use a mixture of homeopathy, Bach and Bush flower essences, tissue salts and lifestyle recommendations.

‘For me it had always been about arnica and acute remedies, the effects of which are well known, but during college this expanded into seeing the benefits of remedies in chronic disease and reducing drug side effects.

‘This is really exciting as it’s another tool for all those wishing to alleviate patients’ pain and distress.

‘The length of time that a treatment takes to work varies from person to person. For acute problems such as flu, homeopathy can work quickly.

‘A more chronic complaint may take longer to heal but you should find gradual improvement during the course of treatment.’
