ANDY PRIAULX’S optimism ahead of yesterday’s two world touring car races in Japan proved well founded.
In terrible conditions the Guernseyman won the opening race in Okayama and stormed through from eighth on the reverse grid to claim second place in the next race where he crossed the line on the tail of Brazilian star Augusto Farfus.
‘That was a tough race,’ he said after his opening win.
‘There was a lot of standing water and Gabriele [Tarquini] was aqua-planing so I nearly followed him off the track. In those conditions you have to hope you can hang on. Jorg [Muller] was always in my mirror and if the race had been one lap longer he would have won.’
Priaulx remains fourth in the overall championship with just the two races in Macau to come.
