I refer to the match report of Sylvans vs Bels in the press of Monday 9th November - it was complete tosh!

I was at the match and watched Bels swarm all over Sylvans right from the kick off and the score could have been 15-2 let alone 8-2. Maybe the goals did take 15 or so minutes to come but that was no reflection of the game as Bels played some very neat and effective football and if it wasnt for a fine perfomance by the Sylvans keeper the score would have been a complete rout. The woodwork was smashed by bels on several occasions and besides the Bels defence not dealing with one long high ball, which Sylvans managed to score from, they looked as solid as I have seen them this year.

Sylvans to their credit did not give up but I heard Colin Renouf say at the end that Bels were just too good for them and he was right.

It does seem that the Bels have upset Mr Batiste in some way. His report was understated in what is an amateur sport, I am not sure what level of football he expects from amateur players because Bels played well.

I am not sure what Bels have to do to get something positive printed in the local press - good job Guernsey Atheletics do not have to put up with this kind of media treatment - remember encouragement often incites improvement
