MAGNIFICENT 7 lived up to their name in the latest round of Indoor Nets.

They took on the Nerine team made up of young and old mixed together and although Nerine held their opponents for the first half, the extra height and experience started to show and Magnificent 7 ran out winners 34-17.

Specialists’ meeting with Autumn Gold had the making of a close match, and so it proved.

Paula Le Poidevin, who scored the first goal, combined well with centre Leigh Le Page and they were influential in keeping the Specialists centre court flowing.

Autumn Gold struggled to find each other and as passes went astray, Specialists sent the ball to the shooters, who had mixed fortunes in scoring.

At half-time, the score was 16-10 to Autumn Gold.

Specialists never gave up trying and are to be applauded for their continued effort in all parts of the court, but Autumn Gold seemed to start to perform as a team and Julie Fallaize did not miss her attempts at goal.

The rest of the game was missed opportunities for Specialist and clinical finishing from Autumn Gold, who eventually ran out 31-16 winners.

This was the highest score posted by Specialists and they are now proving that they can compete.

They have influential players in each third in Gemma Gough, Le Page and Le Poidevin, with the other players now getting used to the game.

IN THE mixed league, Heritage took on the might of Rocky Tropics.

Tropics might have thought that this game was going to be a formality, but it was not, as Heritage fought hard for every ball, and were not going to give them an easy run.

It was to be a game of two halves with Heritage holding their own in the first, before Tropics started to apply the pressure and interceptions by Aaron Scoones in the goal were soon dispatched down court to the shooters who duly put the goal away.

With a height disadvantage in the goal circle, Heritage found it difficult to get any rebounds and Tropics ran out 28-17 winners.

Next up Raw Talent took on Richmond and this was a game in which the experience of Richmond told.

Elaine Creed was in control of the game and the players, and with her wealth on experience, Raw Talent found it difficult to find to break down this feisty team, and went down 23-9.

With many young players, Raw Talent will come into their own in the second half of the season.

The game of the night was that of Ogier against Hot Fuzz.

It went goal for goal, with the two goal attacks – Nicole Thomas for Hot Fuzz and Jamie Roussel for Ogier – being instrumental in keeping their teams on track.

Karl Zierlinger was pulling off some great interceptions for Hott Fuzz in the Ogier circle. His speed across the court and reading of the game is very good and he is at last getting his timing right.

With Karl Abbotts running the centre court, Hot Fuzz had good players in all thirds and it eventually paid dividends.

The unbeaten teams, Tropics and Richmond, meet in the next round of matches.
