STUART FALLA’S recession-beating sponsorship package will ensure Guernsey’s 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games teams travel better prepared than ever before.
Thanks to the efforts of the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association treasurer, the island’s teams bound for Delhi next year and Glasgow in 2014 will enjoy almost a quarter-of-a-million pounds of support.
The figure – £240,000 to be exact – was revealed by the GCGA patron Sir Geoffrey Rowland at Beau Sejour last night at an occasion to celebrate the island’s first 40 years of Games involvement.
‘I’m delighted that these companies have stood up to be counted,’ said Falla, who was successful in approaching eight businesses to help make the Guernsey team better prepared than at any of the previous 10 games they have attended.
‘It is not so much to help with travel costs but more to prepare the team professionally,’ said Falla of the six-year deal with Garenne Group, Specsavers, Norman Piette, Ronez, Flybe.com, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Schroders and Guernsey Gas.
‘The whole idea is to properly prepare our team,’ he added.
