BEAU SEJOUR witnessed a turn up for the books this week as new boys Focus HR got the better of defending champions Prime Property Panthers.

‘I’m really pleased with the way the whole team played,’ said Focus’ player-coach Kerry Smyth.

‘It was just a really good team effort against the reigning champions. I’m very pleased but it’s only the one win in a long season, so we’re not too excited.

‘It was pleasing to see that we can compete with these guys.’

Focus led all the way over a Panthers side that boasted stars Lee Ogier, Paul van Beek, Jamie Roussel, Liam Smyth and Jason Hooper among others, and at half time they were 38-32 up.

Their main player on the night was Dan Marriott.

The big man netted himself 27 points.

‘Dan had a really good game,’ said Smyth.

‘He was our stand out player with Aaron Walden, but it was a real team effort.’As expected, Focus won their opening match of the season against the Island Under-21s before suffering a heavy 20-point defeat at the hands of Le Mont Saint Fiat.

‘The game against Le Mont Saint was a bad game for us,’ said Smyth.

‘We recognised where we went wrong and we’ll address these next time we play them. Panthers were a different team and we came out and played well against a really good side and on the evening we played better than them.’

The result saw Focus jump to the top of the Division One having played one more game than everyone else.

Their next match is with Le Mont Saint Abarth on Wednesday 23 December.

‘That will mean we’ve played everyone then and we’ll see where we stand against them,’ said Smyth.
