Le Mont Saint Fiat 75, Le Mont Saint Abarth 87
THE first Le Mont Saint battle of the basketball season went to under-strength Abarth.
Le Mont Saint Abarth enjoyed a comprehensive 12-point victory when they met their stablemates Fiat at Beau Sejour on Friday night.
However, Fiat feel that it is them that should have taken the honours.
‘From a Fiat point of view, we should have won,’ said Pete Beausire, their skipper.
‘We should have taken advantage of the fact that they were without Shek Sesay, Nick Lawlor and Phil Sweet who are three very influential players for them and we were only missing Jeff Stuart and Nick Leale. We just weren’t with the pace of the game.
‘To be completely honest, they out-played us and out-defended us. Fair play to them. They only had eight players on the day.’
The match’s leading scorer was Beausire’s younger brother Mike.
The Fiat centre hit 24 points.
The older Beausire himself got 16 points while team-mate and New Zealander James Tracey added 15.
Abarth’s leading scorer was Jan Renouf.
The former island footballer netted himself 22 and he was ably supported by young big man, Scott Rowe who came away with 19.
‘Scott was incredible again,’ said Beausire.
‘He’s having the best season he’s ever had so far.’
The next Division One fixture sees Abarth take on Focus HR on Friday.
Focus also go into the match on the back of a victory. They caused an upset when they got the better of defending champions Prime Property Panthers 74-67 last Wednesday.Yorkshire Guernsey League: Twelve points separate stablemates
