Regulator and GE boss on IoD panel

0265719.jpgISSUES surrounding the States’ ownership of the island’s utility companies will be discussed at the first Institute of Directors’ debate of the year.

The seminar, which takes place on Friday 15 January, coincides with the Office of Utility Regulation’s latest decision to increase competition in the island’s postal market.

OUR director-general John Curran (pictured) , who is on the panel for the event, will be joined by Guernsey Electricity managing director Ian Watson, Commerce and Employment minister Carla McNulty Bauer and Daragh McDermott, director of corporate affairs for the Jersey Telecom Group, which owns Wave Telecom.

Each will give their views on regulation and the challenges facing Guernsey in managing the issue, while the seminar as a whole will explore whether Guernsey has the critical mass to allow competition on all utility services and if the OUR, as regulator, has become too heavy-handed or is not sufficiently tough to control costs and service standards.

The seminar, sponsored by Yorkshire Guernsey, takes place at the Duke of Richmond Hotel, from noon to 2pm.
