Abarth take over at the top with hard-fought win

LE MONT SAINT ABARTH jumped to the top of Yorkshire Guernsey Division One with a strong 13-point victory over the Island Under-21s at Beau Sejour.

The result also means that Abarth have kept their 100% record, having played four and won four.

They lead the league with eight points while the other sides are all on seven.

But according to Abarth’s veteran centre, Nigel Govett, the

U-21s pressed them all the way in this latest victory.

‘The juniors continue to improve and really did push us to perform,’ said the former Kansas State University star.

‘You cannot give them a better compliment than that. We had basically our strongest team available and we needed it.

‘Any time we made a mistake they were there to capitalise on it. Thankfully from our perspective we managed to make some big plays at very important times and that provided us with the comfort and gap to get the win.

‘You kind of expect that from a team such as ours who have a great amount of experience.’
