THOUSANDS of bees are settling into new hives in Sark.
Fourteen colonies were brought from Gloucestershire last week following months of planning.
The project has been undertaken by Sark Estate Management so that fresh honey can be provided for island hotels and shops and the wax used for candles.
Peter Cunneen has been in charge of moving the bees and said planning started in December. There were several obstacles.
‘Normally you would collect swarms and move them, but that was not possible for the number wanted,’ said Mr Cunneen. ‘So we ordered the colonies.’

Don`t bees have an unelected Queen in charge and
no democratic decisions on their roles in the hive?
Better watch out then – bee right legislation will change that!!!

Let’s hope they have a better sense of geography than the planters of the vineyard. The same latitude as the Loire valley? Where do they think they are?

I understand that bee colonies are very organized and work together to achieve their goals! Maybe the residents of Sark will watch them closely to see how it is done and thus achieve a happy island with all consulted and input from all respected and taken on board instead of decisions of a small select grouping made to affect all – sometimes with disastrous and embarassing results.
Cannot wait for the honey! Please include some bees wax in the honey as we had when we were kids.

Mange if the peoples of Sark can learn something of the organisation of the bees.
Then it might be a good Idea if we the people of Guernsey donated a hive or two to our dear States;
who as we all know have our dear Island at heart and only wish to please all.
