Tell the truth, even in a crisis, is expert’s advice

TELLING the truth and utilising social media are some of the best ways for businesses to deal effectively with a crisis, the BBC’s former chief communications adviser has said.
Donald Steel (pictured) visited the island yesterday to talk about crisis communications.
He gave a presentation to leading figures in public relations and provided an insight into the way in which today’s media environment can be best managed to the benefit of corporate and institutional reputations.
‘Crisis communication should be an integral part of any company’s business plans.
‘One of the things I will be talking about is what happens when you don’t tell the truth because that is one of the key things,’ he said.
