CHERRY-PICKING legislation from the EU will not be sustainable in the long term, the Guernsey Review was told.

Guernsey International Business Association committee member Paul Meader told the audience that in the face of increasing global economic uncertainty, the island would no longer be able to continue the path it had so far followed.

‘Up until now we’ve been lucky to cherry-pick legislation from the EU. However, I can’t believe that’s going to be sustainable in the long term.

‘That’s where the significant danger lurks and we could also end up with unintended consequences,’ Mr Meader said, adding that the challenge would be dealing with the pressure from external regulators. ‘
