Diversification is an issue for now, says CGi director

DIVERSIFICATION of the Guernsey economy will be achieved only with coordinated help from the States, the director of the Confederation of Guernsey Industry has warned.
Larry Granger (pictured) told an Institute of Directors lunch that diversity was an issue not for the future, but for now.
He wanted to see more joined-up thinking from the States and specifically called for more flexibility when it came to planning.
‘Guernsey would benefit greatly from a more flexible interpretation of the planning law. We are all aware of recent decisions which have lost the island potential revenue when a more pragmatic attitude would have been beneficial and resulted in more positive outcomes.
‘We must find ways to generate new and grow existing income streams, both now and in the future.’
