NIGEL DOREY, the retiring general manager of States Works, received a standing ovation from guests as he received the lifetime achievement accolade at the annual awards evening of the Guernsey Occupational Safety and Health Association.

A variety of local businesses were rewarded for their efforts to improve health and safety standards.

‘We were delighted with the number, variety and quality of this year’s entrants, from large organisations to individuals – all of whom are developing safer working environments for islanders,’ said Gosha chairman Andrew Mills.

The awards and commendations were assessed by Roy Featherstone, a member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Council, and former chairman of the IOSH Thames Valley branch.
