‘Better relationship is needed with regulator’

BUILDING a better relationship with the finance industry should a priority for the next director-general of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, according to Giba.

The Guernsey International Business Association has paid tribute to retiring director-general Nik van Leuven, but said that it needed to improve relations between the regulator and industry in the future.

‘It is no secret that Giba has on occasions had its disagreements with the GFSC over matters of policy and strategy during Nik’s tenure and has noted a distinct change in the style of regulation and communication between the GFSC and industry,’ said Giba chairman Dominic Wheatley, pictured.

‘We hope that Nik’s successor will look to work more closely with Giba and the States to help grow the finance sector in a way that will be beneficial to the economic future of the island.’
