FORMULATION of a skills strategy for Guernsey has taken a step closer.

Following on from the workshops which were held with employers to discuss and help develop solutions to key issues, the results of those discussions now form part of pilot sessions that are taking place with the aim of equipping the island’s workforce with the correct skills for their industry.

‘We had four sessions and they were hugely useful to us and also gave us the opportunity to have a direct dialogue between employers and people from the departments to discuss specific topics,’ said chairwoman of the Skills Guernsey Implementation group Dr Elaine Monkhouse.

The workshops looked at employability skills needed by young people, showcasing careers in the hospitality industry, how employers can help and get people back into work and analysing skills gaps in the construction trade.
