Loss of LVCR has dealt bulk mailers a ‘devastating’ blow

THE chairman of Guernsey’s Bulk Mailers Group has said that his members will bounce back from the withdrawal of LVCR relief last year.
As Play.com last week announced it was closing in Jersey, with the loss of nearly 200 jobs, Rodney Brouard admitted that the effect of the scrapping of LVCR on his sector had been ‘devastating’.
Mr Brouard said that personally, he believed the battle was over and the Bulk Mailers Group was set to disband.
Garrick Jones, pictured, from specialist pipe and tobacco retailer EA Carey, which has operated out of Guernsey since the 1970s, said the LVCR impact was undeniable.
Mark Fletcher, chairman of the Guernsey Flower Postal Association, and owner of Fletcher’s Freesias, accused the States of allowing too many businesses into the island who just exploited LVCR. He said that it was inevitable that action would be taken by the UK.

I have a huge amount of sympathy for Mark, Garrick and the like, that have based their business around the loop hole to keep them competative in the flowers by post industry, etc. There are prople on this Island that have for their recent troubles.
The trouble with Rodney Brouard is that he bleats on about the big companies that the states let in but built a massive warehouse (now white elephant), with which he intended to line his own pockets. How? By renting out to the “UK companies that exploited the loophole”. The same ones he claims he told C&E shouldn’t be let in.

I think the really important element in this story is Garrick Jones’ jumper. Surely Mr Jones is not wearing the jumper voluntarily. One can only suspect that his grandmother knitted it for Christmas.
