Guernsey’s Blockbuster not on UK shop closure list

STAFF at Blockbuster received a boost this weekend when the Guernsey store was not on the list of the company’s announced closures.

But the rental giant’s joint administrators said on Saturday  that they would continue to review the profitability of the store portfolio and further closures may have to be made in ‘coming weeks’.

Blockbuster was the third major chain to head into administration last week following photography store Jessops and HMV.

It has a total of 528 stores across the UK, employing 4,190 staff – seven of whom are local.

A list has been published of the 129 stores across the nation that will be forced to shut.

You look in his eyes, don’t be surprised
If you don’t know what’s going on behind his disguise
    Nobody knows where Buster goes
He’ll steal your woman out from under your nose

Does anyone know the way, did we hear someone say
We just haven’t got a clue what to do
Does anyone know the way, there’s got to be a way
    To Block Buster!

The cops are out, they’re running about
Don’t know if they’ll ever be able to Block Buster out
He’s gotta be caught, he’s gotta be taught
‘Cos he’s more evil than anyone here ever thought

Does anyone know the way did we hear someone say
We just haven’t got a clue – ow!
Does anyone know the way, there’s got to be a way
    To Block Buster!

Does anyone know the way did we hear someone say
We just haven’t got a clue what to do
Does anyone know the way, there’s got to be a way
    To Block Buster!

    Aah, aah, aah, aah
    Buster, Buster, to Block Buster!
    Buster, Buster, to Block Buster!
    Buster, Buster, to Block Buster!…

I stopped using Blockbuster after they accused me for not returning a DVD for 4 months and wanted to charge me silly money (having never even seen the film let alone had the desire to rent it on DVD).

I don’t know anyone that rents DVD’s anymore to be honest – Netflix etc are so much more practical. Blockbuster really missed a trick there

Blockbuster are having financial problem because they have too many shop in the U.K, but the local one is well supported and always busy.
I am a regular and never been overcharge, so let us all keep supporting it and save a Town shop to close down.

I have Sky, also Lovefilms at £ 4.99 per month, plus if you search correctly one can find thousands of films on YouTube.
There is no need to travel to and from Blockbusters in order to physically rent videos/DVDs, those days are over for me and I am sure for many others also.
Even buying DVDs and CDs doesn’t really interest me anymore.
Times have moved on and Internet/satellite is the way forwards.
