Giba says Scrutiny’s review should focus on its structure

A SCRUTINY review of the States’ relationship with the financial services regulator is not addressing the key issue, according to the primary industry body.
Dominic Wheatley, pictured, chairman of the Guernsey International Business Association, said that there were other more critical issues to tackle in the link between government, regulator and industry.
‘The review that Scrutiny have come up with isn’t where the issue is – it’s with the structure of the commission itself,’ he said.
‘The relationship between the three parties should be better, but governance only becomes an issue when you have got one party out of alignment.
‘It doesn’t matter why – but when it happens, other stakeholders start asking questions.’
