OPPORTUNITIES to develop trade links between Malaysia and Guernsey have been explored this week with a visit from the high commissioner for Malaysia and the Malaysian trade commission.

His Excellency Dato Sri Zakaria Sulong paid a first visit to the island while his team from Matrade, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, held a number of meetings with individual businesses, trade bodies and States departments on a three-day visit.

His Excellency described Guernsey as a ‘tiny island with a lot of potential’.

‘The world is a global village today and getting smaller. There are plenty of opportunities and we have a government transformation programme looking into how Malaysia can be relevant on the international scene,’ he added.
