SKILLS Guernsey will publish its first annual report and development plan tomorrow.

The report will outline the long-term vision and strategy as well as a plan of action for this year.

Dr Elaine Monkhouse, chairperson of the Skills Guernsey implementation group, said: ‘Skills Guernsey has been established for nearly a year and we have been very busy working alongside employers, States departments and training providers to identify the future skill requirements of the island. These have been brought together in the Skills Guernsey report and plan and will clearly shape our work for the next year.’

Dr Monkhouse added that a key theme over the past 12 months had been engaging with employers, which is reflected in the first few initiatives for 2013. The workshops will help to create a shared understanding of the skills issues that affect Guernsey.

‘The survey of the construction sector was very insightful and provided us with the beginnings of a robust evidence base for addressing skills issues in that sector and I’m sure that the survey of the care sector will be equally revealing.’
