Islands to join forces to develop cultural identity

GUERNSEY and Jersey could soon be working together to develop historical and cultural displays to boost tourism.
Two joint projects between Guernsey Museums and Jersey Heritage are being planned for next year.
And Jon Carter, director of Jersey Heritage, said working together more as the Channel Islands would appeal to those who do not necessarily recognise the islands independently.
‘We need a much stronger Channel Islands identity. While the conversation about political structures is interesting, it is not necessary to wait to see if or when they are in place in order to work to develop more of a CI cultural identity – we can just get on with it,’ he said.
He suggested that the islands should join forces to make more of their Norman history and artefacts dating back to the Roman era.
