States to be asked for £1m. more for Guernsey Finance

A FUNDING BOOST of nearly £1m. could be on the way for Guernsey Finance before the end of the year.
The promotional body for the local industry made great play at this week’s annual update of its desire to increase its £1.2m. annual budget.
A planned approach to the States this month has not materialised, but Commerce and Employment minister Kevin Stewart said that a report should be before the Assembly by the end of the year.
He confirmed his department would be requesting ‘close to £1m.’ over a three-year period from the new Strategic Development Fund.
He said the workload before the States for the next few months had precluded an earlier request for the money.
Guernsey Finance chief executive Fiona Le Poidevin confirmed that a business case – more than a year in the making – was a targeted three-year approach aimed at breaking new markets.
