Ok Backchat, I'll briefly explain. The States secured the Gatwick slots / Aurigny so that Flybe were not left with a monopoly on Gatwick flights, and also to ensure that the Gatwick lifeline remains open should Flybe pull out. The airport needs to be maintained to a certain standard in order to meet international regulations, whereas roads do not. There, is that ok? No conspiracy, no bending over backwards for the finance industry, just sensible policy decisions.
