Can I just point out that not every public sector employee is in the union or agrees with their stance on this. Unfortunately though because of the way it's set up in the States whether you're a member or not they still speak on your behalf in negotiations. Don't get me wrong unions have their place but the trouble is that it's in their interest to have adversarial disputes - it's their lifeblood. Without these big disputes there's a danger members may start to wonder whether it's worth paying their monthly subs.
