Hang on - it was under Mr. Le Page, the previous Chief of Police's watch, not under Mr. Rice, who only took his post after the raid occurred. And it was Mr. Rice who sought to make his officers personally accountable for their actions and then sought outside legal advice, which we can presume was that the matter was indefensible. And so the States then capitulated after doing everything possible to procrastinate proceedings, thereby engendering considerable costs and much ill-feeling. And we, the public, have to pay for it. But we are not to see the bill.
