My views are often at odds with Laurie's when it comes to matters discussed on here, but I don't think people are actually reading some of what he writes on here, and he will be proud of any team that wears green and wins football matches I'm quite certain. He was the assistant to Alan when I was a football mad kid and will always be someone I look up to as well as enjoy talking with about the game - I think we have some healthy disagreement over the relative strengths of respective eras and that will always be the case regardless of the individuals. Football's generation game always throws this up (and it won't be long before I'm accused of being a dinosaur I'm sure!). One specific point I would make is that the Island side of the late 80s and early 90s was almost entirely made up of local born players - Dyer, Marley, Hamon, Le Tissier, Chalmers, Coutanche etc - so I think Lawrie is well positioned to talk about local players and their importance. That said, I think you only have to look at the example Gus Mackay has set to see how local players young and old can benefit from the influence of "adopted" locals.
