Castel

garrett.jpgMike Garrett

I HAVE lived in Guernsey for 25 years and am happily married with four children and six grandchildren. I have just turned 64 years old.

I was a hotelier by profession all my working life, originally in London before coming to Guernsey in 1982. I have served on the Guernsey Hotel and Tourism Association as a committee member from 1985-2002 and have spent two years as president. The last four years I have worked in the financial industry for a well-known Swiss bank.

Since 1998 I have served on the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce Council where I have actively promoted business on the island, both here and overseas and more recently as Post Watch Chairman representing the Chamber of Commerce.

I am Special Constable for the Fort Hommet Headland and the Guet and I am an active member of the Police Public Consultancy Group. I have held both positions for the last nine years.

If I am elected to serve Castel and the island, I will dedicate myself to speeding up decisions and keeping a strong and fair hand in voting for issues that are vital to our future, making sure the truth is heard and to keep real transparency in our work.

I have always worked hard to preserve our environment and natural heritage, as well as to make the island safe from crime and vandalism. If successful as your candidate, this will be my commitment to you.

And lastly, I have no vested interests, company directorships or hidden agendas. I feel that my years of valuable experience dealing with people at all levels will be a strength to the States in future. Having stood in the last election in Castel in 2004, I would be very grateful if those who supported me last time will do so again. Thank you.
