I ASK Town voters to give me another chance to work and help you as a member of the States of Guernsey. I have been one of the hardest working States of Guernsey members over the past few years, asking questions and developing more ideas than anybody else, while pioneering new forms of communication and analysis. I have been incredibly active scrutinising policy, government and legislation.
I hope I come across as a very professional politician and wish to engage your support and interest in completing much work in progress. This includes my ecological campaigning for the environmental group Steps-Living Streets, which has made much recent progress in forcing traffic and safety changes for St Peter Port residents’ pupils in travelling to the new schools. We are pressing for improved bus services. I also wish to see results in reviewing church funding, autism, old age provision, evolving scrutiny and ensuring our house is better managed and reformed.
I want the States to be more businesslike and professional, emulating in best practice, global commercial competiveness. Analytical tools and reviews can assist understanding, prioritisation and evolutionary change.
My strengths are intellectual rigour, capacity for activity, friendliness, hard work, media understanding and persistence against hard odds and knockers. I am working on my weaknesses, such as not always being organised, smart and tidy enough.
The threats facing this isle are huge, but I know that with a little help from my friends and you the town people, I can succeed in offering: perceptive questioning, constructive opposition to arrogant personalities, and visionary caring leadership for both the business community and the typical family.
There are not many members with my 11 years of membership, law degree, charisma, personality or knowledge of government. I have participated on 10 States bodies as a forthright fighter.
