Gillian Tidd
I have lived at Cobo for 10 years and although unelected in 2004, have remained close to States and Parish matters. I serve the community through several charitable and other organisations.
Guernsey faces immense challenges, from all corners. Relentless social evolution, and the power of nature itself have impacted upon us all. Zero/10, Primary school rationalisation, anti-social behaviour, and the recent storms are examples.
Change is being forced upon our island. We cannot affect the causes only control how we react. Our community and government need to work together, strategically.
The people of Guernsey need to choose representatives and leaders who have integrity and perspective.
Responsiblity and flexiblity is required from open and accountable government. To save money: weed out redundant programmes and entrenched mandates, improve co-operation between departments. Our community wants greater investment in its young citizens, in the wellbeing of its aging population, and to preserve this unique environment.
“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Good Government can protect our autonomy, and optimise economic options. Overhaul contract protocols to prevent overspends, and our flawed housing licence system. Student loans are discriminatory. Support the self-employed. Release land to favour local businesses. Go greener, include corporations.
Spending : Tailor 0/10 as needed <\#208> no rescission now ; no GST ever. Be creative financing priority projects: airport runway upgrade and later its extension, sewage treatment and waste processing. Rationalise States-held properties more efficiently.
Earning: We need balanced government to retain our quality of life, high level of public services, beautiful environment, and to ascertain equality and fairness for all. The best option for growing our economy is from within. Resolution of the population debate will impact our island lifestyle into the distant future.
With honesty, intelligence, and the desire to serve our island in your government, I have the courage and commitment to make a difference. Electors of the Castel Parish, please vote for Gillian Tidd next Wednesday, 23rd April, 2008.
