St Peter Port North

henderson.jpgRosie Henderson

My name is Rosie Henderson. Born in 1948, my parents came to Guernsey in 1957. Married, with grandchildren and opinionated. I’ve been talking about politics and been openly critical of the states and what is going on in our island for so long I felt it time to stand.

Housing : The States need to work towards solving the cost and availability of housing particularly for first- time buyers. The work that the Guernsey Housing Association is doing is a start. The possibility of the States making land available for self build might be explored. If Guernsey people invest in land or funds that investment must be retained and must not be sold on to the highest bidder.

The Environment : Global warming, the possibility of higher tides, diminishing fish stocks and greenhouse gases. Our ‘Environment Department’ has allowed modern steel and glass buildings. We must protect and retain our heritage and the island’s natural beauty. Paid parking seems to attack the less-well paid that work in town. If the people of Guernsey want fewer cars the States should promote a better bus service, encourage car pooling, bicycle pools and electric cars - they should lead by example.

Capital Expenditure : We cannot fund all the projects which are needed. The capital projects currently envisaged: schools, airport, coastal defences, sewage plant, incinerator and better health resources must be prioritised and the money spent wisely.

These are only a few of the things that I want discussed and solved. The most important stance I want to take is to promise to be a dedicated people’s deputy. If elected I will vote to the best of my ability to represent the ordinary Guernsey man and woman who had voted for me. Further, if elected my life from that date forward will be an open book.
