Jack Honeybill
Dear St Peter Port voter
MY EXPERIENCE of Guernsey politics over the past four years has motivated me to stand again for election as deputy, in the hope that I might offer some stability and continuity to counteract the exit of some of our most experienced politicians.
My own ambition is to be part of a more dynamic government that has the ability to see the bigger picture and make difficult decisions and the following is a short summary of my background:
* Member of the Treasury and Resources Department
* Member of the Culture and Leisure Department
* Member of the Public Sector Remuneration Committee
* Executive officer of Town Centre Partnership (www.towncentrepartnership.com)
* Retired bank manager
* Chairman, Friends of Les Bourgs
* Guernsey resident for 29 years
* Age 64
The consultation surrounding the challenges of zero-10 involved a fantastic island effort and I sincerely hope the sceptics will judge how the measures work and offer constructive suggestions on any adjustments needed.
The next Treasury and Resources Department will need to follow through with this process and I would very much like to be part of that, as I wish to finish what I started. I consider the Government Business Plan to be an excellent framework for the future.
Finally, I do not believe in making election promises, but I want to make a difference on critical issues of importance to Guernsey. The Corporate Anti-Poverty Strategy must always be part of our decision-making process in an island largely characterised by wealth and high earning.
The ageing population, the demand for a larger workforce and sufficient, affordable housing need to be addressed. The waste and sewage management issues have been avoided by the States and now need dynamic decisions.
Please vote for me on 23 April.
