St Peter Port South

brehaut.jpgBarry Brehaut

Four years ago I was fortunate enough to be elected as one of your representatives for St Peter Port South. I am standing again, knowing that the next four years will be just as challenging as the past, if not more.

Like many of you I lead a busy life. I have two young children and my wife works full-time. Nevertheless, I have immersed myself in the political process and as a new member have had one of the highest workloads.

Being a Deputy is a full-time job and I have approached it that way. I have excellent attendance figures across all departmental and committee meetings. Why a second term? It’s simply a question of unfinished business.

If re-elected I would fully commit to the following: Working through the mandates of the three select committees of Scrutiny Public accounts and Legislation Select to ensure thorough accountability and a more open process.

That the Social Policy Group ensure that tax changes, fees and charges do not affect those on low and fixed incomes and those on the margins of our society.

To redouble my efforts in affording those with a mental health problem a long overdue modern, mental health facility. To press for more proactive, inclusive social policy that intervenes at an early stage to avoid expensive future social and financial costs.

To ensure that the older person is in a property that meets their needs, not our availability and that our benefit system cares for the carers.

Remembering that business and community on our island are one in the same thing.

And finally, not to be afraid to promote our successes, and to never be afraid to say sorry when we get it wrong.

On April the 23rd please vote for continuity, balance and commitment, vote Barry Brehaut.
