Zero-10. Time to move on and show initiative in filling the rest of the black hole. I stand in the POSITIVE camp that would support all efforts to nurture what we have, to maintain our financial security. WIN-WIN solutions are possible.
POPULATION & ENVIRONMENT. Three on-island sources of labour need to be developed that would not impact on population growth. There are about 10,000 retirees; more could be encouraged back into work. Social Security thresholds need to be re-visited to encourage those on benefits back to work. Open Market hosing could be made more attractive.
The best of Guernsey needs to be protected. There are many areas that could be improved. Tidal power could do for Guernsey what North Sea oil did for the UK.
AIRPORT. Maintenance of the runway is an URGENT PRIORITY. Any further downgrades of the runway would have disastrous economic consequences.
EDDCATION, HEALTH & HOUSING - all are big budget services that depend on a thriving economy. Budgets need to be allocated wisely with FAIR investment for ALL Islanders.
YOUTH. There is room for more facilities, such as extreme sports. More use of communal halls to provide a safe environment for youngsters to socialize - needs to be promoted.
LAW & ORDER. The whole island should be a NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH AREA. Our police need our support.
ST. PETER PORT. With the introduction of paid parking there will be more scope for resident’s parking, and more loading/unloading areas. New Douzaine accommodation is planned to include youth and creche facilities.
WASTE & RED TAPE. Numerous improvements could be made, e.g. transferring some planning powers to the Douzaines such as permissions for signs, sheds etc.
MACHINERY OF GOVERNMENT. Our government should work in an open and transparent way. We have regularly suffered playground politics, back-stabbing, overspends and the rest. I would like to promote a TEAM SPIRIT. The needs of Guernsey come first. The will of the majority must prevail. Deputies are firstly servants of the people and egoistical ambition needs to come second.
