Carla McNulty Bauer
Having completed my first term in government, it has been a great learning experience and a fascinating challenge getting to grips with our local government, frustrating but rewarding as we shape Guernsey for the future. From listening to islanders, I know we want a strong economy, a safe community, a good social infrastructure and an effective government.
Easy words but they present many challenges, exacerbated as our lifestyles become more complex. We expect high standards at less cost. We face many external and global pressures and we must keep our unique identity.
My priorities in the next term relate to our social wellbeing, our environment, our economy and the infrastructure supporting our government. For more details please go to my website www.carlamcnultybauer.com. Fundamentally, it’s all about generating the income, providing the services, controlling the costs and making it happen. My key objectives will be to encourage growth and diversification of locally based businesses and developing our local workforce; to ensure our health, education, and housing provision is appropriate for now and the future; and that we get a sustainable resolution to our waste problems. I am also keen to foster off-island relationships for our benefit. Where and when I am able to, I will take responsibility to keep our public expenditure under control and to monitor closely the effects of the 0-10 tax strategy. Developing the vision of the corporate Government business plan into a workable action plan, and communication and consultation with islanders are key to achieving success in these objectives.
You have my continuing commitment to work with dedication, determination and common sense, to bring about change where it is most needed, yet retain the charm of Guernsey as a special and unique place in which to live and work.
