People in St. Sampsons are asking if the zero-10-taxation strategy is fair?
I feel that tax reforms have not run long enough for us to be sure. Soon we must consider adjustments to ensure that benefits and burdens of taxation are fairly distributed
Are we dictated to by the finance industry?
Since our prosperity rests on a mutual dependency we must work together to promote all commercial and business activities.
Are population numbers too high?
We need employees to keep our commercial life vibrant and staff our services but we need to restrain numbers to comfortable levels.
Why aren’t there affordable homes for young people and sites for businesses when there is derelict greenhouse land available?
I believe we should lessen planning restrictions to make home - owning and working easier for ourselves.
How do we control overspends on capital projects?
The Government Business Plan should be developed to prioritise projects and their management rationalised and centralised. And the States must recognise that the public will not forgive those who attempt to hide or bury bad news.
Do our States Departments and services give value for money?
Duplicated activities across departments should be drawn together, financial and service targets publicised and independent adjudication of complaints offered.
What about school closures, safe routes to school and student loans?
It is in our interests to preserve existing schools. Child safety must override intransigence in planning, and the introduction of student loans is a mistake.
Why are we not listened to? Why aren’t we given clear responses?
I believe that we must be governed openly by a House that takes responsibility for its actions. Whilst protecting our international image and our constitutional rights and responsibilities, it must preserve our uniqueness, adopt freedom of information and insist on careful spending within our means.
